A Holmes-Adie pupil is one that:
- often appears large
- reacts poorly to light
- accommodates to a normal degree but more slowly ('tonic' pupil)
If dilute muscarinic agonists are applied it constricts promptly (whereas they would have little effect on a normal eye)
Holmes-Adie Syndrome is a Holmes-Adie pupil plus tendon areflexia.
The condition occurs most commonly in young women and is essentially benign.
