Erythrasma

Erythrasma is a bacterial skin infection causing asymptomatic pink/brown patches, characteristically in skin folds.

It is caused by corynebacterium minutissimum.

Erythrasma glows coral red under woods’ lamp. This is due to porphyrins released by the bacteria.

Erythrasma is commoner in people with diabetes.

Treatment is with topical fusidic acid/erythromycin/clindamycin, or oral erythromycin/tetracycline if severe.
