Acne rosacea

Acne rosacea is a common dermatosis affecting the face.

Its features include:
  • Symmetrical erythema
  • Flushing
  • Papules and pustules
  • Telangiectasia
  • Eye involvement – affects around 60%
  • Occasionally rhinophyma

Triggers for acne rosacea include
  • Sunlight
  • Emotional stress
  • Heat
  • Wind

Demodex folliculorum are sometimes found within rosacea papules but the significance of this is unclear.

Treatment is with topical metronidazole or in severe cases oral doxycycline.  Topical steroids should be avoided as these worsen the condition
